In my first days at the RE Store internship, the store received a donation of some Hawaiian Koa. The wood had been rained on, and it required almost a year of drying before it was usable. Finally, at the end of the internship, the first pieces of Koa were dry enough to sell. After snagging some on a whim, I knew I would have to make sure to celebrate the beauty of the wood whenever I finally used it.
I also picked up a beautiful eucalyptus plank. It featured a few small holes from pests that were long gone, but this lovely piece of hardwood still had plenty of potential. These cutting boards represent my love of working with wood and natural materials, something imparted upon me by the Revision Division and the RE Store.
After a failed casting attempt at home (not recommended), I opted instead for a pre-cast acrylic material, using an epoxy adhesive to bond all components together.
The cutting boards are hand-washable and are finished with a foodsafe beeswax coating.
